Performances of the promises, promises of aspiration, and political effects
How do performances of the promises and aspirational futures resonate in everyday life in late-industrial towns? . How do future-making practices look like in industrial towns?
By looking at various fields of political, social and economic contestations, from everyday lives with risks and political economies of mining companies to social disputes around public utilities and urban infrastructures, my research explores transformations of everyday life within the global landscapes of capitalism. I focus on mundane engagements with the futures and explore how future-making practices have material, social, political and temporal effects. I ethnographically explore various 'sites' of political, social and economic contentions, such as heating and electricity infrastructures, urban spaces, labour regimes, unemployment, the promise of mineral extraction, and pollution.
